Orthopaedic inserts have many applications, helping in the treatment of many ailments related to abnormal body structure.
Which conditions are the orthopaedic insoles chosen for?
Orthopaedic pads are used by both adults and children. In the case of children, their task is to correct, in the vast majority of cases, postural defects resulting from improper development. These include flat feet, knees and lordosis. In many cases, appropriately matched inserts can be used to compensate for developmental abnormalities.
In adults, inserts help to relieve postural pain. They result both from abnormal development in childhood and from illnesses from which the person suffers.
What kind of inserts should I choose?
The type of orthopaedic pads should be chosen primarily according to the type of problems encountered. Preventive inserts are most often recommended in the case of flat feet. In the case of a flat longitudinal footing, inserts are used to support the inner part of the foot, i.e. the supine part. People with a flat transverse foot will be advised to use slightly different inserts, which will support the foot in the middle part. Such inserts include so-called part inserts, which cover only 2/3 of the footprint. In addition to helping people with flat feet to protect themselves from pain, it is also often advisable for people with heel spurs to relieve the strain on their heels.
Hard inserts are slightly different from prophylactic inserts. Due to the different materials, they are much more rigid and thus they better correct the defects resulting from the developmental irregularities of the feet than prophylactic inserts.
Your doctor may also recommend that you make earmolds to suit your individual needs. They are usually recommended for those who have several problems at the same time or due to significant progress, for example flat feet, there is a concern that commonly available in the market inserts will not work.
What to keep in mind when wearing orthopaedic insoles
First of all, it should not be forgotten that orthopaedic insoles should be chosen by a doctor. This is because only the patient, on the basis of his examinations and interviews with the patient, is able to determine the type of disease or abnormality and its size, and thus select the ideal inserts. It is also important that the shoes you buy are matched to the size of the insoles and not the other way round. A poorly placed earmold in the shoe does not fulfill its purpose and may also cause problems to worsen. Also remember to replace them regularly, as they will deform for a long time, thus losing their properties.
