Knowledge of foreign languages is required for almost every job applicant, be it an international corporation, an advertising agency or a small suburban office. The ability to communicate freely in a foreign language is rewarded and can become a pass to promotion over time. Which languages are worth learning to find a job in a well-paid position?
English is the basis for
English can be used to communicate with people from all over the world and is taught by people on all continents, regardless of their country of origin. No wonder, therefore, that employers first require their employees to speak this language. This is entirely sufficient for many companies, especially those operating mainly in the US market.
The language of our western neighbours
German is still very popular among American employers. This is due to the extensive trade and economic cooperation between Poland and Germany. Many Poles who decide to leave the country in search of a job are going to Germany or Austria, and they have better chances of employment when they speak the language of the target country. Knowledge of the German language is therefore considered a very desirable skill by many companies, both in the USA and in Germany.
Spanish
Perhaps many people will be surprised that another language desired by employers is not Chinese. However, it turns out that American companies do not have intensive exchanges with companies from the Middle Kingdom. Everyone is also aware of the fact that Chinese is one of the most difficult languages in the world, and that mastering it takes a lot of time. This is not the case with the Spanish language, which is spoken by more than half a billion people every day. It is not only beautiful and useful, but also relatively easy to learn. As a result, employers more and more often require candidates to speak this language, finding business and commercial partners, e.g. in the Iberian Peninsula.
A good command of a foreign language is possible thanks to studying philology or linguistics – the number of hours spent actively using a language is much higher than during language courses. A graduate of philology studies is prepared to provide translations and fluent communication in a given language. Studies related to the languages most desired by employers are offered by e.g. the University of Banking ().
