Every student knows well how difficult it can be to survive a boring, long lecture. It is no secret that many professors treat their work as a corvée, so they do not even try to kidnap the students and interest them in the subject of their deliberations. This is why there is a temptation to let go of at least some of the lectures and activities. Do there have to be any consequences? Read.

There is no problem with lectures (usually)

The vast majority of lecturers are not very concerned about whether students attend their lectures or whether they are doing something completely different at the time. Going to lectures is not obligatory, but it does not mean that you can completely forgive yourself.

Some lecturers, especially those more involved, use a simple way to force the students to be present. Which ones? They check the attendance list. Usually it is the case that in the case of 2 or 3 unjustified absences, the student has to take into account the reduction of the credit grade or even may not be allowed to take the exam at all. However, the lecturer is obliged to inform the students about such a principle.

Council

If the lectures in a given professor are really very boring and you only waste time on them, find out if it is not possible for your colleague to be included on the attendance list for a year. Some lecturers do not check this in person, simply by releasing a list in the classroom.

What about the activities?

The classes, also called workshops, are a completely different pair of wellingtons. The presence here is already obligatory and almost all professors check the list of students before starting their classes. In the case of repeated absences, the victim may be at risk of not being admitted to the assessment, so the consequences of the bumbling are serious.

So if you are unable to attend because of illness or workload, talk to your lecturer. As a last resort, you can apply to join another group that has classes that are more suitable for you.

Absence from the examination

That’s the worst thing that could happen to you. If you do not take the exam without informing the lecturer, you will simply not receive a credit and you will be given a deadline to do so.

As you can see, it is not the case that a student can choose between classes and lectures at their own discretion. Professors have the right to require the presence of the students, regardless of whether the students would be able to prepare for the exam or to pass it on their own.
